The Literacy Revolution

New Ideas were spread and created.

Paper Manufacturing.

Bible Translations.

Thomas More was a scholar.

He wrote a book called "Utopia".

A utopia is an imaginary place.

Desiderius Erasmus was a Dutch scholar who believed in the teachings of Jesus.

He wrote "Praise of the Folly".

Francois Rabelois was a ......

Monk.

docter..

Scholar...

And an Author....

he wrote "Garganta and Pantagruel".

Johann Gutenburg invented movable type.

The text of a page could be carved into a block of wood.

However wood block printing was expensive and took time......

six million books were made by 1500.

Gutenburg copyed the bible also.

With all of this the liteacy rate began to rise from half or 1 in ten.

All this helped communication because people could talk using paper and books encouraged people to use communication.

The literacy revolution keeps going.

The Spread of Ideas Through Literacyapproved-Alicia.jpg

Paper could be manufactured,
And Johann Gutenburg invented movable type,
It made printing easier, 6 million books by 1500.
Literacy was the new hype.

The Bible was translated,
Into vernacular,
Allowing people to interpret it themselves.
In the Church's eyes, this free thinking was unspectacular.

The book "Utopia" showed better ways to organize
Written by Thomas Moore,
And Desiderius Eramus's "Praise of the Folly"
Was a satire which made learning about society's faults, anything but a bore.

Francois Rabelais wrote
"Gargantea and Pantagruel"
It criticized tradition,
And showed the society as cruel.
