The Catholic Church abused its power,
And so the reformation began.
Martin Luther fought their wrongs
Though declared an outlaw, he never ran.
The Roman clergy was very worldly,
Going against traditions.
They had sumptuous houses,
And were obsessed with power and riches.
The bishops neglected their duties,
And broke religious vows, causing Luther's stomach to lurch.
Priests were poorly trained,
Going against the morals of the Church.
The Church imposed heavy taxes,
For the pope and lavish construction;
Selling indulgences, or pardons for sins,
Forgiveness only God should have given.
